For the last 6 weeks we have been watching the kaka chicks that WCC were monitoring at the reserve in Ngaio.
They had a competition to see who could guess when the first chick left the nest. We entered and put down the 21st of November.
We won!
As our prize 6 of us went to meet Matt the ranger, see where the nest is, and find out more about kakas. It would have been great if all of us could go but 19 kids would have been a bit scary for the kakas.
We walked in and had to sit quietly so that we didn't disturb the birds.
Matt the ranger.
The nest. There was one chick still inside. We could hear her scratching about.
Matt telling us all about the kakas.
One of the fledgling kakas . He was so big!
We loved going and seeing the kakas. Thanks Matt and WCC.
